LFCC Dual-Enrollment College Credits Earned by RCHS Students Increase by Nearly 100%: According to a report from Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) for the 2006 Fall Semester, 53 RCHS students earned a total of 240 college credits. This is up from 37 students earning 121 college credits during fall 2005.
Note: LFCC is hosting “Super Saturday” on Feb. 10 from 10:00 – 2:00 at the Middletown Campus. Sponsored by the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aide Administrators, this event is for all individuals interested in pursuing a college education. High school students are encouraged to bring their parents.
Congratulations to RCES and RCHS Students Selected for Virginia Tech Honor Bands: Megan Wheatley - 18th chair in the Golden Band (first ever RCHS 10th grader to place in the highest band) Matt Swain - 3rd chair in the Maroon Band Kim Hutcheson - 2nd chair in the Orange Band Katie Hale - 12th chair in the Silver Band Lilly Nealon - 6th chair in the Silver Band KT Milam - 6th chair in the Bronze Band.
Governor’s School Holds Open House; Accepts Applications: The Mountain Vista Governor’s School is pleased to invite prospective students and parents to an Open House from 7:00 to 8:00 on February 7, 2007 at the Warrenton Campus in the Barn. Faculty and staff will be present to discuss the MVGS program and answer questions. Current MVGS students will be available to describe their experience in the MVGS program.
Applications for Mountain Vista Governor’s School will be accepted in February for the fall of 2007 from outstanding rising 11th and 12th graders from the counties of Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Frederick, Rappahannock, Warren and the City of Winchester. Please contact your gifted and talented coordinator, high school guidance office, or Mountain Vista’s web site (mvgs.k12.va.us) for more information.
CASE to Start in February: The next session of the Community After School Enrichment Program (C.A.S.E.) begins February 15. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 5:00 P.M. Each class runs for six weeks. Classes cost $40 per child. Some classes have an additional fee to cover the cost of materials. Classes being offered during this session include: International Adventures, Computer Games, Fun and Games, Cooking, Lots of Sports, Calendar Making, Movement and Dance, Scrapbooking, and The Growing Connection. All classes are taught by RCPS employees. An after school snack will be provided.
