RCPS and the Arts: Music, drama, arts are flourishing
RCPS and the Arts: the Rappahannock County School Board and administration value arts programs in the schools. Currently, the RCPS employs three music teachers, two art teachers, and a part-time drama teacher.
There are multiple concerts each year to give students opportunities to perform music for their peers, parents and the community. The drama class produces plays at least once a year. The drama department recently produced a very successful One Act Play Festival that was very well attended by the community and drew rave reviews.
RCPS art teachers post student work at the School Board office. We are exploring other venues in the community to display art work. We are very proud of our programs and feel that our students benefit greatly from these opportunities to develop their artistic skills.
The Curriculum Enrichment Program (CEP), funded primarily by donations, provides program enhancements for students to explore the Arts. Recent CEP-supported arts activities include:
RCES Teacher Layne Vickers took her students to Chateauville Foundation’s beautiful Castleton Theater to see the Cashore Marionettes.
RCHS English teacher Melissa Delcour will take her Cambridge students to see the Moscow Ballet perform Don Quixote at George Mason University.
CEP is underwriting half of the cost of Theatre IV plays at RCES this year. CEP supports other RCES arts projects, including Paul Reisler’s Kid Pan Alley song-writing project. CEP also plans to support an upcoming RCHS mural project.
Community members may make donations to the Curriculum Enrichment Program (CEP) by making checks payable to RCES-CEP, c/o RCES, 34 Schoolhouse Rd, Washington, VA 22747
