“Black Pearls” event honors county residents

The Wayland Blue Ridge Baptist Association Women’s Auxiliary will have its 30th Annual Black History Event “Black Pearls 2007″ at the Wayland Blue Ridge Baptist Center, Rixeyville, Virginia at 4 p.m.  This event is celebrating local African American “Pearls” in history within the counties of Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison, Orange, Fauquier, Louisa , Spotsylvania and Greene.  

This program was scheduled to be held Sunday February 25 but due to the  snow, it has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 4, 2007.  There are 36 individuals being honored in the various categories.  

Rappahannock County has 6 honorees: Mrs. Dorothy Butler (”African American Firsts”), Mr. James Russell (”The Arts”), Ms. Rachel Aylor (”Christianity Lifetime Achievement”), Mrs. Alberta Brown (”Community Service”), Mrs. Jennifer Gray (”Community Service”), and Lillian Aylor (”Community Service”).  The name Black Pearls comes from the 30 years this organization has been active, with 30 years being the year of the pearls. . Nan Butler Roberts is the president of the Women’s Auxiliary and Lillian Aylor the chairman of this years Black History Program.
