Smithsonian Chamber Players at Theatre

May 5, 2007
8:00 pm

The Smithsonian Chamber Players will perform two of the great piano trios at the Theatre at Washington, Virginia on Saturday, May 5. Beethoven’s towering Trio in B-flat Major, Op. 97, called the “Archduke”, was written in 1811. It was named for Beethoven’s patron, Archduke Rudolf of Austria.

Dvorak’s Trio in G Minor, Op. 26 is the other work to be played at this concert. Antonin Dvorak who lived from 1841 to 1904, was born in Bohemia - a land whose folk melodies are often interwoven in Dvorak’s evocative music. The Smithsonian Chamber Players who will bring this music to the Theatre’s audience are Canadian pianist Audrey Andrist, violinist James Stern, and cellist Kenneth Slowik. The concert marks the conclusion of the fifteenth season in the Smithsonian at Little Washington. Tickets for the concert are $20 for adults and $5 for students 18 and under. For reservations contact the Theatre by phone at (540) 675-1253 or by email to TheatreVA@aol.com, or by mail to The Theatre, 291 Gay Street, P.O.Box 322, Washington VA 22747.
