Panthers Impressive in Cross Country Meet
Luray hosted a three-way cross country meet on Wednesday, August 29, with Rappahannock and Madison, and while neither Panther team won, individuals stood out.
Brittani Dodson ran second for the girls. Her teammates Sarah Smoot, Brooke Hatcher, Stephanie Sine and Carly Day finished 13, 14, 15 and 17. Madison won the girls competition with 25 points to 39 for Luray and 61 for Rapp. Emma Hathaway and Emily Spivey were the sixth and seventh runners for the team.
Jake Rosenbaum was the first Panther boy to finish, running 4th overall. Zach Wayland ran 6th, Reed Dove 7th, Will Boelte was 15th and Andrew Lee was 16th. Evan Espinola and Dylan Dwyer were Rapp’s sixth and seventh runners. In all Rapp had eight girls and 13 boys running with more expected in future meets.
The boys ran well enough to edge out Luray for second place. Madison won with 31 points to 48 for Rapp and 49 for Luray.
On Wednesday, Sept. 5, the cross country teams will compete at Broadway High School. Their first time to shine at home will come on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
