Schools plan community meeting on MRSA on Oct. 29

Rappahannock County Public Schools will hold an informational meeting for employees, parents and students on Oct. 29 to discuss MRSA staph infection and answer questions, Superintendent Robert Chappell announced.

The meeting will be held in the Rappahannock County High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29. Representatives from the Virginia Department of Health will be there to present information on MRSA and answer questions. Four students have been diagnosed with the drug-resistant MRSA infection and treated, including three in the high school and one in the elementary school.

Chappell also announced that a “community open house” will be held on Oct. 30 so that the public can provide comment to a team of consultants sent by the state to conduct an “Efficiency Review” of the county’s public schools. The county schools requested the review of its operations and spending after some members of the public raised issues about possible waste or overspending by the schools.

Members of the public may give their views to the “Efficiency Review” team at the open house on Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Elementary School cafeteria.
