Wrestlers perform at home

Aiden Demoli wins his matchPanther fans had one of their few chances to watch Rappahannock’s wrestlers perform at home Wednesday, Dec. 19, as both the Junior Panther and varsity wrestlers faced William Monroe.

Rappahannock had to forfeit in several mid-weight classes and came out on the short end in team scoring 60-18, but those 18 points represented wins by Aiden Demoli at 215 and Jeremy Carter at 152 by pins and a forfeit in the lightest weight class by William Monroe.

Earlier the Junior Panthers also lost several rounds, but Randolph Gray and Derek won their matches. Once the regular wrestling was finished there were exhibition matches. At the Junior Panther level those resulted in another win for heavyweight Randolph Gray. At the varsity level those matches resulted in a win by a pin for Carly Day at 119.

Still earlier the Junior Panther basketball teams lost close matches to Signal Knob Middle School of Strasburg. The boys played first and fell 26-23. Matthew Nicholson was high scorer with 13 points. The girls fell 27-20 after leading 15-14 at the end of the third quarter.

“I was real impressed with their intensity today,” Coach Patrick Stroup said. “Even those who did not win came out ready to wrestle.”
