Varsity Boys’ Soccer Wins Two in a Row
With a 2-1 win over Madison at home Tuesday, April 29, the Panther varsity boys’ soccer team made it two wins in a row. The team defeated Strasburg Friday afternoon by an identical score.
The Panthers had Dugald Day back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game. However, it was pair of Wills that made the scoring difference.
Madison scored first and the first half ended with Madison up 1-0 even though Rapp seemed to be taking the game to the Madison end of the field for most of the half. Scoring attempts were unsuccessful.
Early in the second half Rapp was awarded a free kick. Will Sonnett hit a booming kick, and Will Boelte tapped it into the Madison goal to even the score.
Later Rapp got another free kick awarded, and the scenario was repeated, this time Boelte headed Sonnett’s kick into the goal for the final score.
“You win ball games by taking advantage of the opportunities you get,” Coach Shay Bell said of the two Panther goals.
He also praised Rapp goalie Austin Burnett’s saves and added “Jordan Torrance had a great game in the middle.” He also praised Zack Wayland’s play on the outside, and added “It was good to have Dugald Day back.”
Earlier Madison’s JV defeated Rapp’s JV 4-0. The boys teams next play Clarke County in away matches on Thursday. The JV match begins at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity game beginning at 7 p.m.
