St. Patrick’s Day parade canceled due to weather; Link program is a sellout
The St. Patrick’s Day parade scheduled for Saturday in Sperryville has been canceled due to a forecast for heavy rain, wind and possible flooding.
“We are very disappointed and sorry to disappoint others who were planning to participate or watch the parade, but conditions are so unfavorable we feel we have no choice but to call off the parade, ” Jim Gannon, chairman of the Lions Club-sponsored event, said.
The Irish lunch and music/entertainment program at The Link community
center in Sperryville will go on as planned. As of now, the event is a complete sellout. All tickets have been sold in advance and none will be availble for sale at the door on Saturday.
“This is the second straight year that the St. Pat’s program has sold out in advance,” Gannon said. The event was moved to The Link this year to provide more seating, but still was an early sellout. Tongue firmly in cheek, Gannon said announced that the 2011 St. Patrick’s Day celebration will be scheduled for Saturday, March 12 next year, at a venue to be announced, and tickets currently are available to the highest bidders.
Doors to The Link will be open Saturday at 11:30 a.m. for those who have purchased tickets.
