A sea of green greeted the folks who turned out for the Irish celebration at the Link in Sperryville Saturday sponsored by the Lion’s Club.

WOW…. the food from David Huff’s Country Cafe was terrific and coming from Boston, growing up with the Irish, I am a self proclaimed connoisseur of corned beef and cabbage and given the myriad folks who lined up for seconds I’d say a great meal was had by all and the entertainment was so wonderful.

Gifted Irish step dancers, the room filled with clapping to the toes of pretty Irish step dancers did jigs and reels.young girls happily tapping the stage, the dancers smiling kinda shyly, knowing maybe they were showstoppers, the talented band played all the classic signature and beautiful melancholy Irish ballads, humorous songs as well, like Finnegan’s Wake.

Children from Wakefield filled the room, International Day this year was Ireland and they’d built a float for the canceled parade so still enjoyed an Irish afternoon and Kathy Grove, Wakefield’s wonderful Head Mistress was in great demand for warm hugs.

Lions' leprechaun Norman Getsinger danced a jig.

Jim Gannon, master of ceremonies and an Irishman true, sang a healthy rendition with a rousing audience of Irish Eyes Are Smiling and McNamara’s Band along with his wonderful compatriots. Rappannhock was Irish Saturday, and I can’t think of any place I’d rather be.
