Would you like to get RappVoice news delivered automatically to your computer?

Some of our readers have asked if there is a way for them to be notified when new stories are published by The Rappahannock Voice, so they won’t have to remember to go to www.rappvoice.com to look for them.

Yes, it’s fairly easy to have new articles sent directly to you, so you won’t miss anything new that appears on The Rappahannock Voice. This system directly feeds content to your computer (without use of e-mail, so it won’t clutter up your e-mail inbox). It’s called an RSS Feed, or a subscription feed.

To receive these automatic “feeds,” you need something called a feed reader, which is a bit of software that catches and stores the new stories as they come in. There are many different kinds of feed readers, many of them offered for free. Two common ones that are easy to use and free are offered by Google and Yahoo–all you need to do is sign up for a Google or Yahoo homepage, and you can then get feeds from your favorite websites or blogs, such as news sites operated by The Washington Post, the New York Times, or The Rappahannock Voice.

To check out the Google feed reader, go to www.google.com/reader and take the tour that explains how their system works. If you already have a google.com account, you can simply add the feed reader to it and begin “subscribing” to your favorite feeds. If you don’t have a google account, it’s easy to sign up for one, then add the feeds.

To check out the yahoo.com reader, go to www.my.yahoo.com. If you don’t already have a yahoo.com account and home page, you can sign up for one and then subscribe to any number of feeds you want–from RappVoice, other newspapers, magazines or blogs.

When setting up your feed for The Rappahannock Voice, you will need to type in our RSS feed URL, which is http://www.rappvoice.com/feed. That’s the URL address that you put in the Google or Yahoo reader to receive our new content automatically.

Try it, and you won’t miss any of the news about Rappahannock County that we will be feeding to you.
