About Us
The Rappahannock Voice is an on-line news and information service, and community opinion forum, for Rappahannock County, Virginia. It is published and maintained by Blackwater Publications and is edited by James P. Gannon.
RappVoice welcomes contributions, in the form of news items, articles or opinion pieces, from members of the Rappahannock community–defined as those who live in, work in, own property in or who formerly lived in this wonderful, scenic county in Virginia’s Piedmont region. Our goal is to create an inter-active community “newspaper,” focused on events, issues and subjects of local concern to those in the Rappahannock community.
All submissions or “posts” sent to RappVoice will be reviewed by the editor before being published, and anything submitted is subject to editing for clarity, length, relevance and good taste. We will not publish anything we deem to be in poor taste, or libelous, or false. We will not publish anonymous contributions. All contributors must identify themselves by their real names and provide a place of residence or zip code. Contributions from residents of Rappahannock County will be given priority. Copyright for anything written for RappVoice remains with the author, but all submissions to RappVoice may be published on this site or reproduced in print or electronic form by Blackwater Publications at any time. By submitting content to RappVoice, you agree to these terms and conditions.
To post a comment or submit content, you must register as a user. (It is not necessary to register if you simply want to view the site.) Registration is free and imposes no obligation on you to comment or submit anything. It simply enables you to do so, if you choose.

We encourage readers to comment on our content. You may provide additional information or your perspective, or comment–pro or con–on ours. Our hope is that, in time, RappVoice will become a “community conversation” involving many voices and many people. In this way, RappVoice could become a “voice of the People” of Rappahannock County.
RappVoice intends to adhere to high standards of journalism in presenting news and opinion.
The Rappahannock Voice was founded in October 2006 by James P. Gannon, a Rappahannock County resident and lifelong journalist. Gannon served as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal for 17 years before becoming the Editor of The Des Moines Register, Iowa’s largest daily newspaper. Under his leadership, The Register won three Pulizer Prizes and was named to Time magazine’s list of the ten best daily newspapers in America. After leaving The Register, Gannon returned to Washington, D.C., where he had worked for The Wall Street Journal, to become Washington Bureau Chief for The Detroit News and to write a national affairs column for the Gannett Co. newspapers.
